BURSARIES

We provide a selection of bursaries to artists-in-residence to halve the residency fee, reducing the barrier of cost which can prevent prospective residents from applying. We encourage residents who are able to pay the full fee to do so, as your payments funds our bursaries and helps us to make the residency more accessible for those who cannot afford to pay the full rate. Bursaries are awarded on a discretionary basis and require supporting statements; only one bursary will be awarded per applicant, but a single applicant can apply for multiple bursaries.  If you plan to apply to another organisation or funding body to fund your place on the Mawddach Residency, we can provide any supporting information you need to make that application.

STUDENT - Students in full- or part-time eduction can apply for a 50% bursary
LOW INCOME - Artists with low household income can apply for a 50% bursary
WELSH ARTIST - Artists who were born in Wales or who currently live in Wales can apply for a 50% bursary
EMERGING / GRADUATE - Artists who have recently graduated from a full time course or who are in the early stages of their career can apply for a 50% bursary

COVID

We are keen to keep our artists-in-residence and local community safe during the Covid-19 pandemic. We ask all residents to familiarise themselves with the Welsh Covid guidelines before their trip and will be running the residencies in accordance with the guidance of the time. As the situation remains changeable we will email up to date guidance to residents prior to your residency - if either we or you have to cancel a residency due to changes in guidance, illness or self-isolation you will be refunded in full and offered a priority place in the next round of applications.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q - Do I need to submit a CV with my application?
A - No, just the application form and examples of your work.
Q - What are you looking for in an application?
A - The residency is intended to support practicing and studying artists of all kinds to develop their own personal practice. We are looking for applications that demonstrate a desire to make the most of the time and space that the residency would provide.
Q - Is it possible to apply for less than two weeks?
A - Please let us know in your application if you'd like to apply for a shorter stay - as two weeks is the ideal amount of time for the residency we will prioritise applicants who can stay for the full time and cannot offer discounts for shorter stays.
Q - When will I know if my application has been successful?
A - Two weeks after the application deadline you will receive an email to let you know if your application has been successful or not.
Q - Will I be able to receive feedback on my unsuccessful application?
A -  Yes, on request we can provide further feedback on your application.
Q - If my application is unsuccessful, can I apply again for the next round of submissions?
A - Yes, we'd love for you to!
Q - Do I need to make artwork in response to the landscape?
A - No, you are welcome to propose and produce any work you wish, in response to any subject.
Q - Will I need to donate a piece of artwork to the residency?
A - No, all work created by you during the residency is your own - we may ask your permission to share images of work you have created.
Q - What counts as an 'emerging artist'?
A - If you are working in the first 5 years of your professional artistic career. E.g. less than 5 years since graduating, or less than 5 years since first exhibiting. If you are unsure you can send us an email.
Q - Am I able to pay in instalments
A - Yes, we can arrange a manageable payment plan to suit your needs.
Q - Can my partner come too?
A - The residency is a working opportunity rather than a holiday so you would need to explain the benefit of having a partner staying as part of your application. If your partner is intending to come as a working artist, model, musician or maker your application would need to include them as a 2nd artist-in-residence. For parents, we welcome co-parents who can assist with childcare at no extra costs to enable you to focus on your work.
Q - How do I apply with a carer?
A - We welcome carers at no extra costs, to make the residency more accessible to you and enable you to focus on your work. You will need to provide
details about this in the 'additional information' section of the application form. Please be aware that the residency space is located on the third floor of the house with the bathroom accessed via a set of steps. We can provide more information about the residence and answer any further questions on request.
Q - Will there be tuition?
A - The residency is intended for self-motivated artists and is not an art course or holiday, however, we love to have the opportunity to share skills and ideas. As we will be working from our own studios during your stay, we are always keen to share peer-to-peer feedback and discussions. If you would like to book further tuition in printmaking with Scarlett or drawing with Jake, that can be arranged for an additional cost.
Q - Can I bring my dog?
A - Yes! We welcome friendly, well behaved dogs.
