During her residency Anne Grieve worked on her comic 'Kiva and the Stone Circle' and due to the incredibly stormy weather, she was held up inside in the warm and was impressively productive. Anne decided to take herself out of her comfort zone and back to basics by working completely analogue with no digital interventions.
Anne is an illustrator and comics writer, the comic she worked on during her time as resident is set along a stormy, rocky coastline, so she took inspiration from the Mawddach estuary and combined them with themes and characters in celtic mythology. During her stay Anne developed and strengthened her drawing practice, with tuition from Jake and adoption of a strict working regime. We're really pleased to be able to regularly catch up with Anne now at the Draw Brighton online drawing classes after introducing her to them during her stay. Click on images for a larger view.

David is a printmaker, specialising in wood engraving, for his residency he aimed to produce a new body of work about the Snowdonia National Park, making drawings and developed studies on walks and in the studio.
David spent his time as resident reconnecting with his practice, exploring the landscape and working on some large scale oil pastel drawings to inform future wood engravings. I recommend checking out his instagram account to see lots of process photos and videos of his wood engravings. While he was on his residency he was announced as a selected artist to exhibit as part of the 2022 exhibition program at Tarpey Gallery. He was also shortlisted for the prestigious Boodle Hatfield Printmaking Prize at Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair. His work was also selected by WCPF as part of the top prints to buy under £100, you can buy David's wood engravings straight from the artist through his website. Click on images for a larger view. |
